Open Access Policy

Articles published by the Journal of Developmental Education are offered as open-access publications and the cost of publishing is subsidized by Appalachian State University. There are no fees to individual authors, and authors are allowed to self-archive their work. Non-commercial use and distribution in any medium are permitted, provided the author and the Journal of Developmental Education are properly credited.

The journal operates under a Creative Commons License that allows for the reproduction of articles, free of charge, for non-commercial use only, and with the appropriate citation. The following uses are always permitted to the author(s) and do not require further permission, provided the author does not alter the format or content of the articles, including the copyright notification:

  • Posting of the article on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non-commercial; and
  • Posting of the article on the internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)’s place of employment.

A complete version of the work and all supplemental materials, including a copy of the permission as stated above, in a suitable standard electronic format is deposited immediately upon initial publication in at least one online repository that is supported by Appalachian State University to enable open access, unrestricted distribution, interoperability, and long-term archiving.
