About the Journal
Aims & Scope
The Journal of Trauma Studies & Education (JTSE) is an online open-access academic peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the generation of knowledge regarding mental health and well-being, with a focus on the impact of traumatic stress within the context of Pre K-12 and Postsecondary Education.
The journal accepts manuscripts from varying perspectives within education that critically explore the nature of trauma, as well as preventative and restorative approaches to trauma responses in all education stakeholders.
Published annually, the journal encourages the submission of manuscripts by US and international scholars that use quantitative or qualitative methods. Articles combine disciplinary methods with critical insights to investigate traumatic stress within educational organizations.
Guiding Values
JTSE's core values guide our mission to contribute meaningful and impactful knowledge to the field of trauma studies and education, fostering research that respects human dignity, encourages transparency, promotes educational growth, nurtures community and equity, and embraces innovation and collaboration.
Human Dignity: At JTSE, we uphold the intrinsic worth of all individuals, whether they are contributors, reviewers, readers, or those affected by trauma in educational settings. Internally, we foster a collaborative and respectful environment where each member of our editorial board, reviewers, and authors are treated with fairness and compassion. In the work we publish, we prioritize research that reflects the respect and care necessary when dealing with trauma, ensuring that every study aligns with ethical standards that honor the lived experiences of trauma survivors and stakeholders in education.
Transparency & Trustworthiness: Our commitment to transparency extends to all journal operations, ensuring open communication between authors, reviewers, and editorial staff throughout the submission and publication process. We provide clear guidelines, timely feedback, and ethical accountability in all interactions. Likewise, the research we publish is rigorously evaluated for methodological clarity and integrity, ensuring that readers can trust the quality and authenticity of the work. This dual focus on transparency in both production and operation builds a foundation of trust in the academic community.
Growth & Education: As an organization, JTSE is committed to continuous improvement and learning, both as individuals and as a journal. We support the professional development of our editorial team, reviewers, and authors, fostering a culture of mentorship, constructive feedback, and intellectual growth. Externally, we seek to publish research that advances knowledge on trauma, promoting educational practices that facilitate growth and healing for individuals and institutions alike. This value guides us in being both a learning organization and a source of scholarly insight.
Community & Equity: Internally, JTSE values collaboration and inclusivity in every aspect of journal operations, from ensuring diverse representation on our editorial board to offering fair and equitable review processes for all submissions. We strive to create an accessible and supportive community where all scholars, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, feel valued and heard. Externally, we encourage submissions that focus on equitable trauma-informed practices and emphasize the need for justice, inclusion, and fairness in educational trauma responses, ensuring that the journal’s impact reaches all corners of the educational landscape.
Innovation & Collaboration: Within JTSE, we champion innovative approaches to journal management, peer review, and publication, continually seeking ways to improve our processes through technology, interdisciplinary collaborations, and global perspectives. Our editorial team operates with a spirit of openness to new ideas and methodologies. The research we publish reflects this commitment to innovation, pushing the boundaries of current trauma studies and educational research through fresh perspectives, novel methodologies, and collaborative efforts that bring together diverse fields and voices.
