The Journal of Trauma Studies in Education (JTSE) is committed to the broad dissemination of knowledge that supports trauma-informed scholarship and practices in educational settings. To this end, the Journal operates under the following copyright and licensing framework:

Copyright Retention

Authors publishing in the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education retain full copyright of their work. The copyright remains with the Author(s) and is not transferred to the Journal or Appalachian State University.

License to Publish

By submitting a manuscript and signing the Journal’s Digital Publication and Licensing Agreement, Author(s) grant Appalachian State University and the Journal a non-exclusive, irrevocable license to:

  • Publish, reproduce, and distribute the Work electronically and/or in print;

  • Include the Work in electronic archives and open-access digital repositories;

  • Create and distribute derivative works, including reformatting or translations;

  • Use the Work in educational, research, and training contexts across all media.

This license allows the Journal to make the article widely available while respecting author ownership and control.

Open Access and Creative Commons License

All articles published in the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education are made openly available under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Under this license, users are free to:

By submitting to the Journal, Author(s) affirm:

  • The Work is original, does not infringe on third-party rights, and contains no unlawful material;

Institutional and Legal Framework

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. The Journal is hosted by Appalachian State University Libraries and follows institutional guidelines for open-access publishing and scholarly integrity.

Digital Preservation: LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Participation

To ensure long-term access and preservation of published content, the Journal of Trauma Studies in Education participates in the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) archival systems. These decentralized preservation services store secure copies of journal content in a distributed network of libraries worldwide. This guarantees continued availability of articles even in the event of journal or institutional disruption.

Through participation in LOCKSS and CLOCKSS, JTSE affirms its commitment to the scholarly record’s integrity, stability, and permanence.

JTSE Repository Sharing Policy

The Journal of Trauma Studies in Education encourages authors to share their work widely. Authors are permitted to deposit the following versions of their manuscript in institutional, disciplinary, or public repositories of their choice (e.g., university repositories, ResearchGate, ERIC, OSF, etc.):

  • Submitted version (preprint): May be shared at any time, including prior to peer review.

  • Accepted version (postprint or AAM): May be deposited immediately upon acceptance.

  • Published version (Version of Record): May be deposited and shared immediately upon publication.

All versions should include proper citation and link to the final published version (DOI) in Journal of Trauma Studies in Education. We recommend authors also include the license statement:
